"Maybe you won't be fine, then," Faye said, verging on exasperation as she blew out a sigh. "I want you to be, though, and I think you can be. Can that be enough?"

She was not going to make a promise to stay in touch. She could try, but she wasn't willing to commit when she didn't know yet.
